PsyD in Clinical Psychology

Students have been receiving doctoral training in the Clinical Program at Yeshiva University’s Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology for more than 50 years. The PsyD in Clinical Psychology was established in 1979 and has been fully accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) since 1985.

Our mission is to provide students with doctoral-level training in the conceptual and empirical foundations of clinical psychology, to enable them to become knowledgeable and thoughtful academic scholars, and to train them intensively in a variety of assessment, research, and therapeutic approaches. Students are exposed to a curriculum that integrates relevant research and the scientific foundations of psychology, applied theories, field training, and practical experiences within a wide range of psychological services.

The PsyD in Clinical Psychology (five-year program; 116 credits), provides students with the knowledge and skills to assume the role of professional psychologist in diverse settings. The program provides a full-time sequence of training that consists of four years of coursework, practica, and supervised experiences, culminating a full-time internship in the fifth year.

PhD in Clinical Psychology with Health Emphasis

The PhD in Clinical Psychology with Health Emphasis is designed for full-time students to train in the ethical science and practice of clinical psychology with an additional emphasis on the interaction of physical and mental health. The program espouses the scientist/practitioner model, which places equal emphasis on clinical and research training. Furthermore, in our view, research and clinical practice are highly integrated and mutually informative.

The overarching mission of the program is to train qualified clinicians, academic scholars, and applied researchers in clinical psychology. Embedded in this mission statement are core values of Yeshiva University that include: (1) bringing wisdom to life; (2) love of knowledge for its own sake; (3) a commitment to excellence in teaching and research; and (4) the view that liberal arts and social sciences are compatible with high ethical and moral standards.

This program is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association.

MA in Mental Health Counseling

Designed to meet the changing needs of health care and social services, the 60-credit MA in Mental Health Counseling at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology offers theoretical and applied principles of psychological counseling. Courses are taught by faculty who are recognized experts in their fields.

When New York State revised its scope of practice law several years ago, Ferkauf was the first school in New York City—and one of the first in the state—to take advantage of the new legislation to offer the MA in mental health counseling. The quality and number of applicants to the program have steadily increased, and we are constantly strengthening our course offerings, clinical training and faculty, as well as helping our students to make the all-important transition from training to practice.
